The Artist

Julie is a mosaic artist who has worked, taught and lived in the Philadelphia area for more than a quarter century. She enjoys create large scale murals, three dimensional sculptures and playful pieces using recycled materials.

Her newest artwork is full of positive affirmations for the future. “The news and social media have been making me feel a bit numb” says Julie. “I am finding my own way of balancing that with messages of love and peave. Kind words can go a long way.”

Julie is also a local athlete who enjoys running on the Cynwyd Heritage Trail several times a week. “Sculpture or mural art would be a positive addition to the trail! I’d like to see that happen” she says.

Julie has worked with organizations including Mural Arts, PAEP, Young Audiences, Arts Horizons, New Jersey State Council on the Arts and Perkins Center for the Arts. She has also worked with her friend Baily Cypress for over a decade and has been an Artist-in-Residence at several local schools: Cynwyd Elementary, Bala Middle and Harriton High Schools.

Asked about why she makes art, Julie says: “Creating art is something I just couldn’t live without. Whether it’s creating mosaics, painting or singing a song, I feel a connection to life, to others and to myself that resonates deeper than the surface noise. It’s where I can relax my mind, and find peace both inside and out.”
